Michigan Technological University

Somewhere in Honduras, in a little village, on a white wall, there is this graffiti: “Ingenieros Sin Fronteras.”

That’s Spanish for “Engineers Without Borders.”

And the graffiti is signed, in a bold, black stroke, Michigan Tech, USA.

Among all the universities in the state, Michigan Tech stands out for our commitment to STEM. We are dedicated to the principle that in STEM lie solutions to the world’s most intractable problems, from energy and environmental degradation to homeland security and global poverty. And we build those solutions every day, everywhere, in places as disparate as Wayne County and Central America.

Our nationally ranked graduate programs and exceptional faculty attract some of the best minds in the world while serving some of the very best students from our state. Many of those students are female: in 2009, Michigan Tech awarded the highest percentage of PhDs in engineering to women of any university that graduates twenty-five or more engineering PhDs.

We have more Peace Corps Master’s International students serving abroad than any other university in America, in part because host countries covet their STEM skills. At home, we cherish our small-town quality of life near Lake Superior, enriched by cultural offerings, unparalleled recreational opportunities, and the University’s own diverse community of scholars.

Our mission is to prepare students to create the future. Together, we are changing the world.
